Zalzulifa
Background:
The tracer study of publishing competencies 2008 indicated that a number of units and elements of international publishing competencies (published by UK) is adaptable for enhancing the national qualification framework of publishing industries in Indonesia. Moreover, the rich and various culture, language and demograpy of Indonesia can be a key factors that the Indonesia publishing competeicies can be more various than Britain’s. When there are 39 competency units in UK’s then Indonesia is potential to have more than 76 competency unit. In oder to assure the adaptaion process, it is needed to do the perception analysis of the publishing practitioners toward the international views with 9 tasks, 39 units and 140 elements.
Methods: The perception analysis uses qalitative and quantitative approaches through three main prcedures, such as: (1) taking the first or primer data through questionaer, focus group discussion, benchmarking documents, confirmation to the document’s usage, and requesting feedback from practitioners as skill reader. (2) data analysis in order to see the meaand of rellevant and mean of irrelevant indicated through cartecisous diagram to see the competencies components within the range of priorities, major and overview. (3) having the second data in order to see the cause of irrelevan and relevant factor.

Relationship Between Theme and Protagonists in the Novel The Tree of Man, by Patrick White
Zalzulifa
It is interesting to see the relationship between Stan and Amy and their different characteristics from which arise the conflicts in facing the life in order to create the intact theme. By looking at Stan’s first appearance in the novel, it seems White has a preconceived role or set of characteristics he wants to apply to Stan’s character. His bitter experience makes him become well—known as a “pretty stubborn man” by the people around him. In the mean time, Amy’s characteristics have also been prepared by White through the function of three things which were given to her by the Parson’s wife at the wedding party. Those three things are: a bible, a blouse as good as new, and a little silver nutmeg grater. Of course, they are given to Amy, but, there is an impression that both Stan and Amy will have to adopt those kinds of characteristics in life. For further analysis, let us see whether the appearance of the protagonists as symbolized by the three things in expressing the theme.
After having elaborately discussed, the relationship between the protagonists and theme, the writer of this thesis would like to sum up his study that: First, Patrick White in this novel tries to prove that experiences can make one mature in thought and act. The essence of humanity can be found in the interaction between human beings and their surroundings. Like in this story, Stan, who derives from a virginal place or suburb, lives in an area which becomes crowded over time and therefore has to face increasing problems. The success of Stan in facing every problem makes him different than his neighbor who kills himself because the people around him say that he is a dull man. It is true that this novel is not about the land, but of course, the human relationships between nature, with God, animals, and other humans. So, there is a broad meaning in the relationship which White tries to portray in this novel. Second, the characteristics of the protagonists are expressed through the dialogues

This then means that learners should be assessed continuously to monitor their progress and make daily instructional decisions. The research background was done through the learning process at the State Polytechnic of Creative Media.
Methods: In finding the right way of designing English material for the publishing students the researcher executed students’ need assessment through questionnaire, interview and class observation (simulation) in learning process. The research question is overcome through eight items of respondents’ understanding, namely: 1) Perception of Lecturers toward the publishing knowledge; 2) Institutional Awareness of Lecturer; 3) Students’ role in learning activities; 4) lecturers’ role in learning process; 5) Evaluation in learning process; 6) Difficulties in designing English materials; 7) Solution in problem solving; 8) Designing English material for the publishing students.
