POWER REQUIREMENTS OF INSECTS, BIRDS AND BATS IN HOVERING FLIGHT
Mohammad Abdul Mumeed and Prof. Adeel Ahmad
The paper reports the data on velocity of induced air of 6 species of insects with 110 samples, 12 species of birds with 82 samples and 5 species of bats with 90 samples, when they are in their hovering state and the data lead to verify experimentally Vi calculated by using Helicopter theory. Inertial power and induced power are calculated to compute dynamic efficiency of flight surface, specific power and power cost of insects, birds and bats. From the linear plot between (Vi)h and (Vi)e, it is concluded that ‘The Mass Flow Theory’ provides a theoretical justification for the experimental results. The paper is accepted for publication
