Using WizIQ with Instructure Canvas
Instructure Canvas is a modern take on the Learning Management System. Developed in the latest programming environments and featuring hooks into a variety of social media and third-party web applications, the core of Canvas was recently open sourced and can be deployed for free by anyone with a reasonable understanding of Ruby on Rails.
Now used in many K12 and university settings, most schools choose to deploy Instructure’s hosted and supported Canvas implementation. Recently, Instructure announced its Partner Program and WizIQ became the first Certified Partner to develop a plugin for use with the LMS.
The WizIQ plugin enables synchronous online classes to be launched from within the Canvas, utilizing Canvas’ open architecture and WizIQ’s APIs to ensure that single sign-on is seamless and that students and teachers can be engaged in live classes, meetings, and conferences via the web at a moment’s notice.
The Canvas User Interface
Instructure Canvas is divided into a series of modules. Some of these include: Announcements, Assignments, Calendar, Chat, Collaborations, Conferences and much more.
These modules are surfaced to users depending upon the particular context in which a user is working. WizIQ resides within the Conferences module (or “class” as Ruby developers call it) and can be accessed by students and instructors when they are viewing details for a particular course to which they are assigned
