One of several hundred video-tuitions in high school chemistry, available at We look at the underlying principles and briefly at the functioning of the IR spectrophotomer. We then examine a number of spectra and consider how the structure of the sample molecules can be reasoned from the wavenumbers of the troughs (peaks).
