About Sheila Cohen

Founded in 2015, I have developed a website devoted to teaching English through music. It is an innovative approach that helps students to get into the flow of the English language, naturally and without feeling self-conscious. I have been focused on international education since 2003. I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Master of Arts degree in International Education in 2008. After obtaining a Certificate to Teach English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), I taught in Moscow Russia. I have been actively engaged in teaching English since 2003 where I volunteered to work with Somalian refugees. I am passionate about intercultural communication. My Master of Arts, capstone presentation was on Intercultural Competencies in Study Abroad. My communications background includes college credit in Phonetics, Mass Communications, Radio Broadcasting, Journalism, and Video Production. Currently, I teach English online for an international language company. I have always loved music and began to research the connection between music and teaching language in 2013.

Intercultrual Communication Competence Outcomes in Study Abroad
Sheila Cohen

A Master of Arts Capstone in International Education; study abroad student's blogs were studied during a semester abroad, to examine the relationship between intercultural competency and degree of immersion. Study found a number of variables connected to intercultural competency. While immersion was a key factor, skills such as language, knowledge of culture, and an open mind were other factors which may have influenced the level of competence outcomes.
