Observe your voice movements, it should be calm and steady during practice. You should increase practice hours gradually. These exercises are equally useful in learning all kinds of music. Even well known musicians start their practice with the same kind of riyaz. Riyaz helps in culturing (find alternative) your voice and improving your concentration ability. Follow the practice track carefully to get maximum benefit. Use the track provided by us to practice.

  • Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa
  • Sa Ni Dha Pa Ma Ga Re Sa

This is the riyaz for shuddh Swar {natural notes}. First listen to the track 2-3 times then try to hit each note correctly with help of practice track. Listen to the demo carefully and then practice, observe your voice movements. Only listen to the aakar practice & ask for feedback.

It should be calm and steady during practice. For practicing Sa in Aakar - Firstly listen 2-3 times and sing alternately Sa and its Aakar, confirm that your voice is hitting the same note in aakar. do very calmly & patiently. First listen to the exercise 2-3 times then try to imitate with the help of practice track given by us. Start with practicing only notes don’t sing aakar, after listening to the track twice or thrice and understanding each note try aakar. Sing the notes and aakar alternately. Listen to the 2nd exercise. Try to copy.

Practice 5-6 times. Now listen to the aakar of 2nd combination and practice its notes slowly.

Practice each exercise 5-6 times calmly. Be careful about notes in aakar, concentrate and follow the intonations patiently and slowly.

Exercise for Week – 3 :

Please remember that in each week we are going to add different kind of exercises in our module, hence last week’s riyaz repetition is needed. Start with repeating last week’s riyaz first which would take about 20 minutes, and then listen to the following simple combination.
Listen to the following exercise 2-3 times and try to copy.

  • Combinition of 3 notes -
    • Sa Re Ga, Re Ga Ma, Ga Ma Pa, Ma Pa Dha, Pa Dha Ni, Dha Ni Sa
    • Sa Ni Dha, Ni Dha Pa, Dha Pa Ma, Pa Ma Ga, Ma Ga Re, Ga Re Sa.

  • Combinition of 4 notes –
    • Pa Dha Ni Sa
    • Sa Ni Dha Pa, Ni Dha Pa Ma, Dha Pa Ma Ga, Pa Ma Ga Re, Ma Ga Re Sa

Listen to aakar and try to sing the notes. Observe carefully the voice inflections in aakar. Exercises both at least 5 times each (both in sargam and aakar).

Exercise for Week – 4 :

Repeat our previous schedule of Riyaz i.e. Omkar to Combination of 3 notes.
Now you must be more comfortable with our exercises and if not you need a little more concentration. If you are confused about anything please ask us for feedback.

  • Some simple combination -
    • Sa Re Sa Re Ga, Re Ga Re Ga Ma, Ga Ma Ga Ma Pa, Ma Pa Dha, Pa Dha Pa Dha Ni, Dha Ni Dha Ni Sa
    • Sa Ni Sa Ni Dha, Ni Dha Ni Dha Pa, Dha Pa Dha Pa Ma, Pa Ma Pa Ma Ga, Ma Ga Ma Ga Re, Ga Re Ga Re Sa

  • Some simple combination -
    • Sa Re, Sa Ga, Re Ga, Re Ma, Ga Ma, Ga Pa, Ma Pa, Ma Dha, Pa Dha, Pa Ni, Dha Ni, Dha Sa
    • Sa Ni, Sa Dha, Ni Dha, Ni Pa, Dha Pa, Dha Ma, Pa Ma, Pa Ga, Ma Ga, Ma Re, Ga Re, Ga Sa

This combination will help you to hit alternate notes.

Exercise for Week – 5 :

Start with previous week’s riyaz. If you want you can change the order of combinations, but we woujd advice you to start with Om.
Read some musical terms given in the glossary to which you are familiar now like Shuddh swar, Alankar etc. Try to understand their meaning.
Use our Tala Module and listen to tala Dadra. Try to catch the beats. See our glossary to understand terms used. Practice tala for 4-5 times. Make a proper schedule like the concluding day and so forth.

  • Sa Re Ga Ma, Re Ga Ma Pa, Ga Ma Pa Dha, Ma Pa Dha Ni

Today make sure you do riyaz with tala so that you can master tala equally well, which is needed for a good musician. Give 5 minutes to each exercise of the previous weeks.
Listen to the aaroh- avroh of Raga Bhupali carefully try to copy it. Also try aakar.
Listen to the pakad try to understand its meaning as well as importance with help of provided glossary. Concentrate on each note and also on the aakar.

Exercise for Week – 6 :

From this week we are starting learning ragas. Try to understand terms associated with ragas like vadi swar, aaroh- avroh, lakshangeet etc. We are providing the following flow chart which will help you to learn the Raga. Please keep in mind that regular riyaz (which includes om and other exercises) is essential to achieve a certain height in performance hence riyaz of previous notes as well as learning new ones must go on simultaneously. Use our practice tracks as well as take guidance from our experts to proceed in the proper direction. Remember you should practice till you are perfect. Always ask for the feedback.
We are providing different levels to learn ragas. This is according to the traditional Guru-Sishya Parampara. First two levels approximately take 3-5 months to master. Learning more bandishes helps you to understand raga in various stages and increases your interest as well.
