Assessment 3.0 is transforming teaching and learning

Mark Barnes’ Assessment 3.0: Throw out Your Grade Book and Inspire Learning (Corwin, 2015) is sparking debate among educators, parents and college professors everywhere. Amazon.com’s top book in Education Assessment encourages readers to completely rethink how we evaluate achievement. Veteran teacher and researcher Barnes contends that traditional grading says nothing about learning and is actually harmful to students.

In this session, we’ll look at current assessment practices and their negative impact on students, while envisioning a method of evaluating learning that Barnes says will revolutionize education, with the complete elimination of grades, report cards and even the GPA.
