Yonnas Kefle
Yonnas Kefle is an economist and a Professor of Economics.
He has a great deal of experience teaching Economics and working as an Economist. He earned a B.A. in Economics in 1983 a Master’s degree in Economics in 1986, and a ph.D. in Economics in 1992. While he was a graduate student at Howard University, he worked as a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Social Sciences, and then as a Graduate Research Fellow in the Economics Department. He also served as an intern with the District of Columbia Government as a Statistical Assistant. He joined the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics in January 1990 as an Economist.
He completed a two-year Foreign Service Officer assignment (2000-2001) as the Labor Attaché in U.S. Embassy, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. As part of this program.
In addition to English, he speaks French, Amharic, Haitian Creole, and some Arabic.
Over the years, he has received several commendations, including a good job award and the Secretary of Labor’s Exceptional Achievement Award. He also received the Department of State Meritorious Honor Award for outstanding contributions.
He works as an Executive Officer of Global Trade & Development Consulting Inc, an emerging international trade consulting company. His research interests include Labor Economics, Economic Development of emerging countries, and Macroeconomic Policies. He enjoys applying statistical and econometric theories in these areas of study.
He has lived in Frederick with his family since 2004 and began teaching at FCC in 2007. In addition to teaching, he is serving as Maryland Governor's Commissioner for African Affairs, as Advisor for the UNESCO Center for Peace, and as board member on several civic organizations such as the Frederick County Literacy Council.
