About
Ummu Maahir
After thirty-three years of marriage, Ummu Maahir is the mother of six children and the grandmother of four.
She and her family moved to Saudia Arabia in 1987 to seek knowledge. She spent the next ten years studying Qur’aan, Arabic and Fiqh. She studied for three years at Darul Furqaan in Medinah and a year at Darul Hudaa in Jeddah. She studied a year at Darul Dhikr in Jeddah while teaching English there, Wel Hamdulillaah. She studied fiqh with Dr. Faatimah Naseef (May Allaah preserve her).
She most recently studied under the late Dr. Saleh es Saleh (Raheemahullaah) for three years.
In 1997 Ummu Maahir co-founded North American Islaamic Foundation, Inc. (NAIF) a 501(c)(3) non profit that fights for the religious rights of Muslims across America. As a religious rights advisor Ummu Maahir has fought vigorously for the rights of Muslim women throughout Delaware. In constant contact with employers, educators and government officials she has striven to secure the right for Muslim women to wear Hijaab without suffering discrimination because of it.
In 2008, Ummu Maahir established Darul Amaanah Transitional House the first Drug Rehabilitation Program exclusively for Muslim women in the U.S.
As founder of Darul Amaanah Qur‘aan Memorization Academy, Ummu Maahir has spent the last thirteen years volunteering tirelessly to assure that the Muslim children of the Tri-state area have an Islaamic school that offers them an environment where they can excel in the memorization of Qur‘aan while they secure Towheed in their hearts.
Ummu Maahir’s intense concern for the dispensation of authentic knowledge has led her to implement a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum for the serious female student of knowledge in the U.S. Students of Ma’had Darul Amaanah enjoy a weekly schedule of Qur’aan, Arabic, Fiqh and Aqeedah. The Ma’had has completed Sharh Thalaathatul Usool by Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih Al Uthaymeen, Dispraise of Hawaa by Ibn Qayyim, The Natural Blood of Women by Shaykh Uthaymeen, Medinah Book One and The Arabic Reader.
The Ma’had’s current reading list includes The Foundations of Fiqh by Imaam Abdur Rahman as Sa’di, Sharh Al Aqeedatul Waasitiyyah by Shaykhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah, Book One and Book Two of the Islaamic University of Medinah Arabic Program, Al Qaa’idah Al Bagh-daadiyyah, and Minhaj Tilaawah.
