However, some are also involved in using public spaces for exhibition of art works. There is a general tendency among the practitioners of art for considering ‘gallery space’ as the only valid space to show creative potential. Neither the public spaces nor the gallery spaces are just confined to one particular mode of expression. In the public sphere, any visual product becomes an ‘object of art’. Thus the notion of so called ‘high-art’ gets blurred with the mass productions of any art object. Calendars, posters and day-to-day objects are good examples. They all bear visual potential to attract the onlooker. Advertising banners displayed in public spaces have assumed the role of ‘art-objects’ because of its attractive and commercial value. Their role is no-more limited to mere sale-target but they have assumed the importance of making any consumer object survive in the memory of public. Technological innovations have completely changed the practices of art. It may be observed that technological innovations have proved to bring-in a different visual quality. The most unfortunate part of the technology is its accessibility. Not everyone has an access to technological resources, and theatre, productions based on technological means have become luxury of few where those who have no access cannot experiment and also cannot innovate. The mechanised visual productions are used for a ‘targeted audience’. Their impact is so powerful that the message that has political overtone is read as realities of life. Thus, art has to play a ‘responsible’ role in the society. Art in public domain will always question the validity of art. Potential danger would be a confrontation with certain section of the society which an artist has to face. Nevertheless artist who work with clear ideas make their stand-point very clear by defining their ideological positions. In short, artist has to engage himself/herself to interact in public spaces in order to communicate visually.
