Slide 6 : If the teacher taught , why didn’t the preacher praught?

Slide 7 : If a vegetarian eats vegetables, What do you think a humanitarian eats??

Slide 8 : English can be very confusing. Eg: A house burns up as it burns down . How about when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible?

Slide 9 : “You’re right.” meaning CORRECT. “Take a right.” meaning TURN TO RIGHT. “He hit him with a right .” meaning A PUNCH WITH A RIGHT HAND. “It’s a right angle.” meaning an ANGLE OF 90 DEGREES. “You have a right.” meaning LEGAL PERMISSION. “He’s right wing.” meaning ON THE CONSERVATIVE END OF THE POLITICAL SPECTRUM. “That’s not right to do.” meaning THAT’S NOT LEGAL. “It doesn’t fit you right.” meaning IT DOESN’T FIT YOU PROPERLY.

Slide 10 : The wonderful word “UP” This 2 letter word perhaps has more meanings than any other 2 letter word in English. UP – means towards the sky or at the top of the list. But when we awaken in the mornings why do we wake UP ? At a meeting topics comes UP . We speak UP. Officers are UP for election. It is UP to the secretary to write UP a report. We call UP our friends. We brighten UP a room. We polish UP the silver. We clean UP the kitchen. The mechanics fix UP the old cars. We line UP for tickets. We work UP an appetite. We think UP excuses. We dress UP for a special party.

Slide 11 : This UP is still confusing… A drain must be opened UP because it has stopped UP! We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night! We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP!!!

Slide 12 : Think of a nine letter word which becomes another meaningful word each time we remove a letter from it. Startling Starting Staring String Sting Sing Sin In I
