1 1 Ascertain if you have the
Experience required.
Non graduates (i.e. No College degree)
With a high school diploma, PMI requires that you have minimum of 5 years/60 months unique non overlapping professional project management experience during which at least 7,500 hours were spent leading and directing project tasks. This means that you should have led and directed project tasks as identified in the Project Management Professional Examination Specification. This will entail having experience in all the five process groups across all your project management experience submitted on the application, although, you do not need to have the experience in all the five process groups on a single project. 1b
Graduates (i.e. possesses College degree) With a bachelor’s degree, PMI requires that you have minimum of three years/36 months unique non overlapping professional project management experience during which at least 4,500 hours were spent leading and directing project tasks as identified in the Project Management Professional Examination Specification. This will entail having experience in all the five process groups across all your project management experience submitted on the application, although, you do not need to have the experience in all the five process groups on a single project. 2 You require mandatory contact hours of Project Management with a test at the end of the program. 35 contact hours of project management education across the areas of project quality, scope, time, cost, human resources, communications, risk, procurement and integration management. 3 The contact hours are available IITA Inc. offers Project Mgmt Leadership Group register at (http://www.iitainc.com/)
Online in virtual classrooms of 4hours per session, twice a week for 5 weeks giving you a total of 40 hours 4. Join PMI www.pmi.org. Fee is $129 and membership provides a $100 discount on application fee. 5. Apply to take the PMP exam www.pmi.org. Fee is $405 for members and $555 for non members. You will receive a letter from PMI within 5 days confirming their approval for you to proceed with the exam. 10% of the applications are audited for accuracy.
That process can take 4-6 weeks and may require you to submit copies of your college diploma, obtain letters from your managers documenting your experience, etc. letter from IITA Inc. confirming your mandatory contact hours terminating in an administered test. 6 Register to take your exam Instructions will be included in your letter from PMI. and consult PMP Handbook. There two types of mode of taking the exam; paper based and computer based. Paper based is not available in most parts of US except for candidates who live at least 186.5mile/300km from the nearest Prometric Computer Based Test site. 7. Study and take the exam having gone through the training
prep course. The Recommended Books are:
1. PMBOK Fourth Edition, 2. PMP Exam by Rita Mulcahy sixth Edition, 3. Optional: the PMP Exam: How to pass on your first try by Andy Crowe, 4th edition 8 Sit for your exam. Pass the exam and proudly attach PMP© to your title. 9 Advise IITA Inc that you passed your exam.
