Prime science : Prime science Living things
Living things : Living things Now we are going to learn about living things.
Here in this lesson we also learn plant life and how they
Produce their food and how animals and plants are
Interdependent each other, some water plants and so on.
First we know that everything around can be divided as living things and non living things.
For e.g. Chair, book, table and so are non living thing.
Contd… : Contd… Cat, man, plants, animals, and man are living things.
Plants are the main source of food for animals.
How did they prepare food? In the presence of sunlight, carbon dioxide from air, water and minerals from the soil and the green pigment called chlorophyll they prepare food.
The animals and other living beings depend on plants so plant is the natural source for food.
But some animals eat other animals also.
Now shall we see what the other kinds of plants in this environment are.
They adjust according to the environment.
Let us see the water based plants like lily, lotus, water hyacinth grow in ponds.
Their structures or features are different. For e.g. Lotus has long spongy stalk, large leaves which are covered with wax. Their stomata are upper part of the leaves so it can prepare their own food

Contd… : Contd… The plants in hilly areas have needle like leaves so that excess water slides throw it.
They do not bear instead of they bear cones.
In desert plants have flesh stems they prepare their food. They have spines instead of leaves so they do not loose much water.
When we see some plants grow in damp areas they do not shed their leaves.
Some plants bear much heat. Like mango, coconut, peepal tree need less water and the leaves arranged such a way that they protect themselves in cold and very hot season.
From this we learnt what the different kinds of plants are and how they prepare their food and how they survive in different conditions. That’s all about plant life.
