Statute of Anne 1709 : Statute of Anne 1709 An Act for the Encouragement of Learning   copyright vested in author ‘for a limited time’   intended to create balance between authors, who would be ‘encouraged’ by a secure income to create new works, and broader society, which would benefit by access to cheaper copies of works & opportunity to adapt them - to expand community’s knowledge

WIPOWorld Intellectual Property Organisation : WIPOWorld Intellectual Property Organisation "Copyright and related rights protect the rights of authors, performers, producers and broadcasters, and contribute to the cultural and economic development of nations.[…]The purpose of copyright and related rights is twofold: to encourage a dynamic creative culture, while returning value to creators so that they can lead a dignified economic existence, and to provide widespread, affordable access to content for the public.” accessed 4th October 2010 http://www.wipo.int/copyright/en

The Copyright Act 1968 : The Copyright Act 1968 literary dramatic musical artistic cinematograph film sound recordings http://taggalaxy.de (Jennip, 2010b) ‘works' and ‘subject matter other than works’ copyright does not protect ideas or facts, it protects their material expression as an original ‘work’

the copyright act 1968 - ii : the copyright act 1968 - ii copyright ownership: the creator (usually) owns copyright   duration of copyright: (usually) the life of the creator + 70 years   moral rights the right of attribution the right not to be falsely attributed the right of integrity

the copyright act 1968 - iii : the copyright act 1968 - iii the copyright owner has the ‘exclusive right’ to reproduce, publish, perform, adapt, and communicate their work however ... the act also makes ‘exceptions’ to the exclusive rights: e.g. no permission required for: a fair dealing with a ‘reasonable portion’ of a work for the purpose of research and study a fair dealing for review and criticism … but we don’t know if these exceptions apply online
