I. The anointing defined: A. Hebrew words: 1. Mashach: to rub with oil, to anoint, to consecrate, to paint. 2. Moshchah: unction 3. Cuwk: to smear over with oil, to anoint. 4. Shemen: grease/liquid, as from the olive,richness, anointing, fat thing, fruitful. B. Greek Words: 1. Aleipho: to oil w/perfume, general term used for anointing 2. Enchrio: to rub in oil, to besmear, anoint. 3. Epichrio: to smear over, anoint. 4. Murizo: to apply (perfumed) 5. Chrio: Idea of contact, to smear or rub w/oil (Implication)-to consecrate to an office or religious service-anoint, a. Vine's : It's confined to sacred and symbolical anointings of Christ as the anointed of God. C. Jesus/Yeshua is the anointed one. 1. Luke 3:21-22, 4:18 2. Acts 10:38 3. Acts 4:27 4. Christ in the Greek is "Christos" which means anointed Messiah. 5. "Christos" is taken from "Chrio" 6-5 above. II. The Anointing A. It is the Power of the Holy Spirit 1. John 14:26, i John 2:27, Acts 1:8, Luke 4:18 2. Anointing is the power of the H.S. Dunamis Power. Mk 5:30, Lk 6:19, 8:46 3. Virtue is "dunamis" -dynamite, powerful. 4. The anointing is the very life of Jesus Christ within you, and through you to minister unto others. B. God is still only anointing the Priest, King and Prophet. This should show in year three (3) if you are anointed. Li 3:21-22, 4:1-21 No miracles till anointing. Ac 1:4-8 i. The believer is a prophet. "Prophet" "Propheteuo" *Speaking under divine inspiration.a. One who speaks forth or openly, a proclaimer of a divine message, denoted among the Greeks an interpreter of the oracles of God. b. 2 Cor 1:21-22, i John 2:20, 27 C. Jesus is the High Priest i.
