Balanced diet is considered to be consuming all the required nutrients in the correct proportion.
Definition and type of fad diets : Definition and type of fad diets A fad diet is considered a quick fix to a problem that requires a change in a person’s lifestyle, exercise routine and eating pattern.
There are many misconceptions “fads” about dieting as it relates to weight lost. These include:
Low-carbohydrate diet (Atkins diet), High protein, high fat diet
Herbal shakes, Liquid diet (using low-calorie, high-fiber shakes)
Diet Pills and teas
Skipping meals
All fruits diet
Cabbage Soup diet
Detox diet
Low-carbohydrate diet (Atkins diet), High protein, high fat diet : Low-carbohydrate diet (Atkins diet), High protein, high fat diet Carbohydrates provide the body with energy; the lack causes the body to use fat as energy source.
Consuming high fat, puts the body at risk to develop non- communicable disease such as High Cholesterol, Hypertension, stroke, diabetes to name a few.
Consuming high protein also dehydrates the body as the large protein molecule is not stored and uses the water molecule as a vehicle to pass though the body causing the fat cells to shrink.
Result
As soon is this practice is discontinued fat cell swell twice the size and weight is regained at a faster rate
Herbal shakes, Liquid diet (using low-calorie, high-protein, high- fiber shakes) : Herbal shakes, Liquid diet (using low-calorie, high-protein, high- fiber shakes) Most herbal shakes are high protein shakes which again will dehydrate the fat cells causing them to shrink.
