Data Findings: : Data Findings: To Summarize: In reviewing student enrollment, we find that the number of freshmen that begin in Grade 9, sometimes do not continue in McKee or become a drop out. The enrollment numbers of upper classmen begin to decline from the freshmen and sophomore registers. A predominantly male school; McKee attracts males who have very little desire to attend higher education. The Career and vocational programs seem more desirable after high school that attending college. The biggest concern is that these same students sometimes become discouraged with school and do not complete the full four years or sometimes complete the HS Course in more than four years. They didn’t realizing that their High School academia Program still consist of mandatory Regents and State exams.
Recommendations/Action Plan : Recommendations/Action Plan The Data Inquiry Team can choose a Grade 9 target Population. This population should be chosen based on the students middle school performance grades. Their grades should fall within the range of a high Level 1 to a high Level 2 ELA and Math scores.
The Team should follow the cohorts’ progress throughout the year, monitoring attendance, lateness, and report card grades.
An advisory team should be implemented with the students. A ratio of 1:5; teacher to students.
Low inference observations of the students and their class participations to report to the team; and reflect on different ways to begin to refocus the students or/and keep them on track.
To keep the parents informed and involved, a parent meeting in September or during orientation should take place. This will give parents the opportunity to know in which direction the team will be moving in; also what to expect if your child is not performing up to their level and how they can help.
