Verbs : Verbs What is a verb?

Definition : Definition Verbs are action words and linking words. Now you may be a little confused by what a linking word is. Don’t worry! I’ll explain that later. For now, just focus on the fact that verbs are action words such as run, jump, play, and eat. Anything that you can do is a verb.

Verb Clues : 3 Verb Clues (Clue) You can find the verb by putting the words “I, you, he, she, or it” in front of any word that’s not a noun. If the two words make sense then you have found the verb. Example: David fights Goliath. (Can you find the verb?) If I can put “He” before the word “fights” and it makes sense then “fights” is a verb. “He fights.” That makes sense, so “fights” is a verb.

Let’s Find Some Action Words : Let’s Find Some Action Words Now let’s practice finding verbs. I want you to go the next lesson and look at the worksheet. Move your mouse slowly over the words and you will see the ones that are action words. Try it now.
