COURSE DESCRIPTION: This is a writing composition and grammar course designed for students with limited writing skills. The focus is on the writing process, integrated with listening, speaking and reading skills with a strong grammar component.
COURSE GOAL: The goal of this course is to provide students with a basic knowledge of grammar and writing concepts in preparation for academic programs. It will also provide students with basic writing skills of a personal or vocational nature.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: By the end of the course, students will be able to:
create a positive attitude toward writing by overcoming anxiety.
build a sense of community in the classroom.
build awareness and appreciation of other cultures.
develop proficiency in expressing ideas at the sentence, paragraph and multi-paragraph levels.
develop proficiency in the writing process: generating and organizing ideas, composing multiple drafts, giving and responding to feedback, editing and revising ideas.
develop a sense of purpose and audience.
reinforce basic rules of grammar and structure.
integrate reading, speaking and listening with the writing component.

ATTENDANCE AND TARDINESS POLICY:
Absences of more than 12 hours: Student may be dropped from the course.
Students who are ten minutes late will be marked absent for one class hour.
