Confusing words in English

The word "lightening" is the wrong word for this case. It should be "lightning." The word "lighten" means to reduce the weight of something while "lightning" is the discharge of electrical energy.

Slide 1 : “The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter-it’s the difference between the lightening bug and the lightening” -Mark Twain Effective communication demands precise word choices and often you see people fumbling for that right word. This occurs because there is a whole array of words in a genre and picking the right one is a problem.

Slide 2 : Culture: the way of life of particular group of people or nation. Tradition: belief passed on from generation to generation. Custom: behavior or action specific to a place or society. Ritual: a religious ceremony performed in a set order.

Slide 3 : Industry: the field of commercial activity involving manufacture of specific goodsor sale of services. Company: a commercial body which is in one or more industries. Trade: the buying and selling of goods and services. Factory: a building where goods are manufactured.

Slide 4 : Society: people living together in an order in country or region. Community: a group of people with common race, religion or profession. Situation: a set of circumstances in which one finds oneself surrounded by Incident: a happening, an occurrence.

Slide 5 : Adopt: to choose as one’s own Adapt: to adjust oneself to Adept: skillful, good at doing something, dexterous. Effect: result, to bring about Affect: influence adversely.

Slide 6 : Anxious: filled with worry or apprehension on anxiety Eager: looking forward with pleasure Continual: recurring at intervals, intermittently Continuous: occurring without interruption.

Slide 7 : Disinterested: free of selfishness or bias Uninterested: not interested Discover: to uncover or bring to light something that existed Invent: to create something new

People: masses Millions of people in the world do not have the access to the food and health facilities. Peoples: countries India, Japan, Korea and China are the peoples of Asia.
