The simple present tense expresses general statements of fact. Pat doesn’t ride his motorcycle to work. The negative form of the simple present tense is: Subject + do/does + not + main verb The contracted forms of do are: don’t and doesn’t. Does he wear a motorcycle helmet? The interrogative form of the simple present tense is: Do/Does + subject + main verb The Present Progressive Tense Pat is riding his motorcycle right now. The present progressive tense expresses an action that is in progress right now. It is happening at the same time that the speaker is saying the sentence. He is fixing his motorcycle right now. The affirmative form of the present progressive tense is: Subject + am/is/are + main verb(ing) He isn’t riding the subway right now.
