Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT)
Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA)
RHCT(echnician) : RHCT(echnician) Primary focus on set up and management of new Linux systems on an existing network
As a junior member, the RHCT aims to identify individuals who can:
Install
Set up
Configure
Attach new Red Hat Linux systems to enterprise networks
& Customize the system to meet end user needs.
According to Vice President, of Global Learning Services for Red Hat, Peter Childers
“ RHCT certifies technician-level skills for entry-level/journeyman Linux system administrators.”
RHCE(ngineer) : RHCE(ngineer) Primary focus on set up and management of Linux servers running production network services and security
As a Technical Lead the RHCE is capable of:
Set Up and Manage enterprise networking services, including: DNS, HTTP, sendmail, and others.
& Manage security for servers attached to the internet.
The RHCE posses all the skills and knowledge as that of the RHCT
One is automatically qualified for the RHCT as a RHCE
Vice President Childers also adds,
“ An RHCE is a person who has the combination to the server room, can perform a technical lead job role and can make decisions on how services will be set up on Linux servers.”
RHCA(rchitect) : RHCA(rchitect) Primary focus on deployment and management of many systems in large enterprise environments
As a Senoir Linux administrator one is required to:
Deploy and integrate complex, organization wide, open source architectures
& Supervise large teams of RHCT’s and RHCE’s.
RHCA’s enable an organization to maximize the efficiency of its RHCE’s and RHCT’s and take productivity gains to new levels.
Red Hat Certified Architects have had in-depth, hands-on training, and require talent and expertise with the Linux system.
Survey Says… : Survey Says… Performance-based certifications prove competency more meaningfully, and are accorded higher status than other types of certifications.
RHCE’s report greater confidence with their skills, and ability to manage and build Linux Servers. They also receive the recognition they deserve for their ability to take on more challenging projects.
Most RHCE’s report the following within 90 days of receiving their certification:

Linux Professional Institute Program : Linux Professional Institute Program Linux Professional Institute is the leading Linux certification not for profit organization. Founded in Canada, year 2000, the LPI currently offers three programs; LPCIC-1, LPCIC-2 and the new LPCIC-3.
They are currently developing LinuxCore which focuses on very basic concepts of Linux.
Slide 8 : Linux Professional Institute administers three levels of vendor neutral certifications:
Junior Level Administrator (LPICI1)
Intermediate Level Administrator (LPICI2)
Senior Level Administrator (LPICI3)
Junior Level Administration (LPIC1) : Junior Level Administration (LPIC1) Primary focus on basic maintenance tasks, and install and configure PC’s
As a Junior Level Administrator you can expect:
To have two to four years of Linux experience
To maintain workstations and stand-alone PCs
Intermediate Level Administration (LPIC2) : Intermediate Level Administration (LPIC2) Primary focus on administering small to medium sites
An Intermediate Level Administrator must be able to:
Plan, maintain, secure and troubleshoot small heterogeneous networks.
Maintain mixed software, Microsoft, Linux, Samba, Internet Gateway and Internet Server
Supervise assistance, provide management and input towards purchases and automation.
Senior Level Administration (LPIC3) : Senior Level Administration (LPIC3) Primary focus on design and implementation of solutions for multi-site enterprises.
A Senior Level Administrator one is required to:
Design and implements solutions for enterprises and heavy duty internet sites
Initiate projects, manage budgets and schedules
Supervise assistance and consult with higher management.
Linux+ : Linux+ CompTIA launched it’s Linux+ program in 2001 and revised it in 2004.
Linux+ is an entry-level or beginner's Linux certification.
Intended to measure individuals with less than two years of Linux experience, Linux+ consists of a single exam, which costs $207 and can be taken at either VUE or Prometric testing centers.
CompTIA Linux+ Certification : CompTIA Linux+ Certification Primary focus on planning and handling basic Linux administration
Linux+ Certified individuals will:
Configure and administer and maintain systems
Install and maintain hardware on Linux based computers
& troubleshoot.
CompTIA Linux+ identifies individuals with a minimum of six to twelve months of practical Linux experience.
