Next year, all TEA and ILEP alumni from all program years will be able to apply to host a U.S. teacher.August 2, 2010: Application due to IREX November, 2010: IREX notifies applicants with results December, 2010 — Travel Dates, 2011: Ongoing collaboration between U.S. Teacher and TEA/ILEP Alumni to: Set travel dates Revise and finalize day-by-day schedule due to IREX Design 8-hour workshop agenda due to IREX Spring /Summer 2011: U.S. Teachers travel for two weeks to TEA or ILEP Alumni Host's country. Timeline…what am I responsible for? Prior to the U.S. teacher’s travel, you are required to correspond regularly with the U.S. teacher (email, Skype) to collaboratively develop: an agenda for the two-week visit, and a plan for an 8-hour workshop. We expect bi-weekly communication at a minimum (at least once every 2 weeks) If I host a U.S. Teacher ….…what am I responsible for? Prior to the U.S. teacher’s travel, you are required to suggest appropriate local hotel accommodations. It is ultimately the U.S. teacher’s final choice about where they are comfortable staying. If I host a U.S. Teacher ….…what am I responsible for? When the U.S. teacher is in your country, you are required to fulfill the agenda and workshop plan that you and the U.S. teacher have created together IREX understands that sometimes the plans may change! If I host a U.S. Teacher ….…who pays for the related expenses? IREX purchases the U.S. Teacher’s airfare. IREX provides each U.S. Teacher with a modest allowance to pay for his/her meals and accommodations during the 2-week visit. IREX will not accept any receipts or make any reimbursements for expenses incurred during the U.S. Teacher’s visit. TEA Alumni are not expected to have any expenses related to the U.S. Teacher’s visit. If I host a U.S. Teacher ….Day Two 7:00 am -8:00 am: Breakfast 9:00 am: Welcome: Meet staff and tour of school 10:00 am: 4th period – 6th grade English TEA international teacher will teach a lesson on listening skills –The lesson will be observed by the U.S. teacher and the school’s EFL teachers. 12:00 pm: Lunch 1:00 pm – 1:45 pm: 6th period – 8th grade World History US teacher will have a chance to get acquainted with history teachers’ projects – teaching Geography, Literature, and Civics through an integrated curriculum. 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm: Debrief with history teachers to discuss the interactive methods that were used during the World History lesson 3:00 pm -4:00 pm: Meeting with the TEA host teacher to discuss the next day’s team-teaching activity. 4:00 pm: Sightseeing of the Botanical Garden 7:00 pm: Dinner There will be about 15 students in the 6th grade class The class size for 8th grade World History is about 50 students About 10 teachers will participate in the debrief Day-by-Day ScheduleStudent Centered Teaching Parent-Teacher Associations: Building an Effective Partnership Between School and Home Classroom Management Interactive Teaching Methods for EFL Teachers American Teenage Culture Establishing Volunteer Groups and the Role of Student Leaders Community Service Learning Workshop ExamplesPLACEMENT IREX will make placements based on the strength of the application and subject area overlap between the U.S. teacher and the international host.
