Mursal A successor attributing the hadith to the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) Ruling 1. Weak-majority of hadith scholars, many jurists and legal theorists-the missing person/narrator could be a Successor and not a Companion 2. Reliable-Abu Hanifah, Malik and Ahmad on the condition that the Successor is a thiqah and only narrates from the other thiqat. 3. Accepted with conditions-al-Shafi'i i. Successor should be senior successor. ii. If he mentions missing narrator, narrator is thiqah iii. Successor does not contradict other thiqat narrating same hadith. Above three conditions should be supported by ONE of the following. a. Hadith narrated via another connected chain. b. Supported by another mursal hadith with different chains. c. Mursal is supported by fatwa of the Companion. d. Majority of scholars give fatwa based on its contents
