VII. Course Description:
This course is designed to give students background information on the concepts and theories of the field of sociology. Careful attention will be given to stratification, social class, gender, race and ethnic relations, and theory to name a few. Upon successful completion of this course, students will have a strong understanding of sociological concepts, theories, and be able to critically analyze social issues. Students will have the ability to apply sociological perspectives to practical situations.
VIII. Course Objectives:
General Objective:
The goal of this course is to provide the student with a better understanding of the basic concepts, terms and theory of Sociology
Specific Objectives:
To gain a basic knowledge of terminology, theories and concepts used in sociology.
To gain an understanding of and acquire “the sociological imagination.”
To think critically about social issues the people encounter on a micro and macro level.
To apply the concepts learned through lecture and text to “real life” application.
