Slide 1 : WELCOME TO THE CLASS! PRESENT BY MARIE GLEMAUD

Slide 2 : . Line Point plane Geometry

OBJECTIVES : OBJECTIVES By this end of the presentation you will be able to: Identify and model points, lines, and planes. Identify collinear and coplanar points. Identify noncollinear and noncoplanar points.

What is Geometry : What is Geometry Geometry is the study of lines, angles and their relationship with each other. . .

POINTS : POINTS Point has no size and shape = no dimension. Point is represented by a small dot. It is named with a capital letter. Example: . A or “Point A” .B .C .D

Line : Line Line is two or more points which are connected and are endless in both directions. It never ends. It is represented by a straight line with two arrowheads to indicate that the line extends without end in two directions. The symbol for a line It is named using any two points on the line or with a lower case letter Example: Line w or AB or BA w A B . .

Plane : Plane Plane is a flat two dimensional surface which contains points, lines, segments. It is represented by a shape that looks like a tablecloth or wall. It is named by using a cursive capital letter in a corner. Name: Plane Or plane ABC F A B C . . . F

Naming collinear and coplanar points : Naming collinear and coplanar points Collinear points are two or three points on the same line Collinear A, B,C and D , B, E Non collinear: Any three points combination that are not I the same line. E.g. points ABE Coplanar points are four or more point to point on the same plane. Coplanar points: ABCD Non-Coplanar point: A B C D E . . . . . A B D C E . . . . .

PRACTICE : PRACTICE 1.Draw a noncollinear point, J K, L. 2.Draw JK, KL, LJ 3. Draw plane S. 4. Draw a collinear point, A, B, C. 5. Draw point Z.

PracticeUse the figure to name each of the following : PracticeUse the figure to name each of the following 1. A Line containing point A A B C D N E . . . . . l Ans. 1) The line can be named l There are 4 points on the line. Any two of the Points can be used to name the line AB, BA, AC, AD, DA, BC, CB, BD, CD, DC 2. A plane containing point C Ans. 2) The plane is N Any three noncoplanar points=36 Planes: ABE, ACE, ADE, BCE, BDE, CDE

Slide 11 : 1.TU lies in plane Q and contains point R. 2. Draw a surface to represent plane Q and label it. 3. Draw a line anywhere on the plane. 4. Draw dots on the line for points T and U. 5. Since TU contains R, point R lies on TU. 6. Draw a dot on TU and label R. T R U . . . Q PRACTICE Use the following sentences to Sketch

Practice : Practice 1. Name a line that contains point P. 2. Name the plane containing lines n and m. 3. Name a point not contained in line l, m, or n 4. What is another name for line n? 5. Name the intersection of lines n and m. R Q P S T U W n l m . . . . . . . Iine n, RS, SR F F W PR, SR, PS .R

PRACTICEName three points in the diagram that are not collinear. : PRACTICEName three points in the diagram that are not collinear. 2 3 1

PRACTICEDecide whether the statement is true (T) or false (F) : PRACTICEDecide whether the statement is true (T) or false (F) Point A lies on line l Point B lies on line l Point C lies on line m Point D lies on line m A,B, and C, are collinear. A, B, and C are coplanar D, E, and B are collinear. A E C D B . . . . Ans. 1. F 2. T 3. T 4. F 5. F 6. T 7. T l m

PRACTICEDecide whether the statement is true (T) or false (F) : PRACTICEDecide whether the statement is true (T) or false (F) 1. Points A,B and C are collinear. 2. Points A,B and C are coplanar. 3.Point F lies on DE. 4. DE lies on plane DEF. 5. BD and DE intersect. 6. BD is the intersection of plane ABC and plane DEF. Ans. 1. F 2. T 3. F 4. T 5. T 6. T
