Search engine optimization is the process of getting a website higher in search engines to receive more traffic to the webpage (google.com).
Google is the most popular search engine, but other popular search engine optimization tactics can also be used on Yahoo, MSN, and others.
What is Black Hat SEO? : What is Black Hat SEO? Black hat search engine optimization is also known as spamdexing, which involves many different manipulative ways to improve a website’s search engine ranking.
Black hat tactics include: keyword stuffing, link spamming, content spamming, hidden text, link farms, and many other techniques (wikipedia.com).
Keyword Stuffing : Keyword Stuffing Have you ever seen an article or website that repeatedly used the same keyword? Search engines rank websites higher for a specific keyword the more it is used on a given page or website. However, many search engines now detect excess keywords as spam, and the website may be delisted from the search engine (wikipedia.com).

Link Spamming : Link Spamming Link spamming involves spamming a website’s URL on other websites.

Hidden Text : Hidden Text Hidden text involves keywords or phrases on a website that are the same color as the background.
It is hidden so search engine robots (which index websites on their search engine) will scan the website and see more related keywords and information (wikipedia.com).

Link Farms : Link Farms One way to increase a website’s ranking in Google or other search engines is to get links pointing to your website.
Link farming is a form of link spamming, but is made up of a group of websites that share links to their neighboring websites.
A large link farm will tell Google that this website is important because it has many links pointing to the website (netmechanic.com).
Why Do People Do It? : Why Do People Do It? Natural search engine optimization is a long and tedious process for any website.
To be on the first page of Google for a given term, it can take years!
Black hat SEO tactics have proven to be effective for some; and some websites have even seen first page results in just a matter of days.
Right vs Wrong : Right vs Wrong Why are business ethics important?
It helps “avoid unfavorable publicity.”
Also helps “gain the goodwill of the community (chapter 1).”
Search engines have a code of conduct which gives guidelines on what is allow and not allowed SEO practices.
Risks : Risks If black hat SEO tactics are employed by a reputable business, the risk can be very substantial.
If Google detects a website of link spamming, link farming, keyword stuffing, or any other illegal activity, it can ban your website forever from their search portal (chapter 1).
Conclusion : Conclusion Black hat SEO is seen as a misleading and morally wrong practice.
Using such tactics will most likely lead to a ban from Google and other leading search engines.
