Clara Barton was an American humanitarian and a nurse, accredited with the formation of American Red Cross.Q - She developed an interest in medicine at the very young age of 11 while she was nursing her ailing brother. R - She was born on December 25, 1821 in Massachusetts, United States.S - In 1870, while in Europe, Clara came across the International Committee of Red Cross; a neutral agency formed in 1864 to provide humanitarian services to war victims.T - In 1873, after returning back to the United States, she started working on a project to form the American Red Cross; an organization affiliated to the ICRC.U - Finally, American Red Cross was formed on May 21, 1881 in Dansville, New York and Barton dedicated the rest of her life to extensive social work. 2. Women have made valuable contributions to science. Some of the women scientists of the very ancient times have faced difficulties in getting the due recognition of their work from the society. With the passing years, the society realized the value of their scientific works and today, they are held in high regard. Here is an overview of a very famous woman scientist who made a difference to the society.Q - She was inducted to the National Inventors Hall of Fame and was the first woman to receive this honor.R - Gertrude B. Elion is a notable American biochemist and pharmacologist who received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.S - She received the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1988 followed by the National Medal of Science in 1991 and the Lemelson-MIT Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.T - She is attributed with the discovery many drugs, the most significant one being the AIDS drug, AZT.3. One of the most unforgettable famous short speeches, the "I have a dream" speech by Martin Luther King Jr., which was delivered on 28 August, 1963 at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the 'March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom', was a path-breaking moment for the Civil Rights Movement in America. Given to an audience of more than 200,000 people, this Martin Luther King speech was ranked as the top American speech by a 1999 poll of scholars.Q – “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."R - I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.S - "I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.T - I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave-owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.U - I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together."
