N طOي: الش Words of the Day Allaah -the Most High -says in His Book in Soorah Saad (39):23 the meaning of which is: }% ين 'ل( م ت ) % ث , هم% ب)( ر ( ن, و( ش, خ( ي ( ين ' لذ) ا % ود %ل% ج % ه,ن' ر م 9 ' ع( ش, ق( ت ( ي' ان ( مث) ا ? ه' اب ( ش( مت9 ا ? اب (ت' ك ' يث ' د( ح, ال ( ن( س, ح( أ ( زل) ( ن % ه) الل K اد ( ه , ن' م % ه( ا ل ( م( ف % له) ال , ل'ل, ض% ن ي ( م( اء و ( ش( ي , ن( م ' ه' ي ب ' د, ه( ي ' له) ى ال ( د% ه ( ك'ل( ذ ' له) ال ' ر, ك' ى ذ (ل' إ , م% ه% وب %ل%ق( و , م% ه% ود %ل% {ج "Allaah has sent down the best of speech, a Book (this Qur'aan), its parts resembling each other, oft-repeated. The skin of those who fear their Lord shivers from it (when they recite it or hear it). Then their skin and their hearts soften to the remembrance of Allaah. That is the guidance of Allaah. He Guides therewith whom He pleases and whomever Allaah sends astray, for him there is no guide." And we extract from this verse, the verbs ر } 9 ' ع( ش, ق(ت } and { ( ن, و( ش, خ(ي } and { % ين 'ل( { ت And they are from the verbs ر } ) ( ع( ش, ق'ا } and { ( ى' ش( خ } and { ( ن( { ل And from the roots ق – ش – ع – ر} } and { خ – ش – ى } and { { ل – ي – ن And the linguistic meaning of { ر) ( ع( ش, ق'ا } is } ( د( ع(ت, ر'ا } and { ( ب( ر( ط, ض' { ا to tremble, shake And the linguistic meaning of { ( ى' ش( خ } is } ( اف ( { خ to fear And the linguistic meaning of { ( ن( ل } is} ? ة( ض'ب( ق, من% ( ر,ي( غ ? ة( ينe( ن ل ) (أ( م, ط' ا ( و ( ن( ك( { س to calm down, to become tranquil and at ease in a mild manner, without anxiety or distress And their meanings according to the Sharee'ah are: (As-Sa'dee) And from what (( مرآن العظي الق )) Al-Qur'aan Al-'Adheem contains of loftiness and exaltedness, is that it leaves an impression on the hearts of those who possess understanding (of it) and are rightly guided. And in this regard, He -ta'aalaa -states: } O همQ ب:N ر N نO وN شO خN ي N ين P لذ: ا Q لود QQ ج Q هOنP ر م Y P عN شOقN { ت "The skin of those who fear their Lord shivers from it (when they recite it or hear it)" Meaning: on account of what it (the Qur'aan) contains of that which rouses and fills one with fear. } P له: ال P رO كP ى ذ NلP إ O مQ هQ لوب QQقN و O مQ هQ لود QQ ج Q ين PلN م ت : Q { ث "Then their skin and their hearts soften to the remembrance of Allaah." Meaning: upon their remembering (that which) awakens in a person hope and the longing for (Allaah), at times inciting them to work deeds of righteousness and at times inciting them to abandon the performance of evil and mischief. (Ibn Katheer) } O همQ ب:N ر N نO وN شO خN ي N ين P لذ: ا Q لود QQ ج Q هOنP ر م Y P عN شOقN { ت "The skin of those who fear their Lord shivers from it (when they recite it or hear it)" Meaning: this is the description of the righteous, when they hear the Words of the Compeller, the Protector, the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving, because they understand the promises and warnings contained therein. The frightening words and threats make their skin shiver from fear. } P له: ال P رO كP ى ذ NلP إ O مQ هQ لوب QQقN و O مQ هQ لود QQ ج Q ين PلN م ت : Q { ث "Then their skin and their hearts soften to the remembrance of Allaah." because of their hope for His mercy and kindness. They are unlike other than them from amongst the the wicked, immoral sinners, in a number of ways: First: They listen to the recitation of the Aayaat [of the Qur'aan], while those (sinners) listen to poetic verse recited by female singers. Second: When the Aayaat of Ar-Rahmaan are recited to them, they fall down in prostration weeping, with the proper attitude of fear, hope, love, understanding and knowledge, as Allaah says: O مQ هOتN اد N ز Q تهQ اN آي O مP هOيNلN ع O تNيPلQ ا ت N ذPإN و O لوبهم QQ ق O تNلP جN له و : ال N رP كQ ا ذ N ذP إ N ين P لذ: ا N ون QنP مO ؤQ مO ا ال N م:نP { إ N كPئN أول Q N ون QقPفO ينQ O مQ اه NنOقN زN ما ر : P مN اة و N صل: ال N ون Q يم PقQ ي N ين P لذ: ا N لون Q ك: N وNتN ي O بهم ¡N ى ر NلN عN ا و i ان N يم Pإ م } ¢ يP رN ق ك ¢ O زP رN ة و ¢N رPفO غN مN و O مP به]N ر N دOنP ت ع ¢ اN جN رN د O مQ هN قا ل gN ح N ون QنP مO ؤQ مO ال O مQ ه "The believers are only those who, when Allaah is mentioned, feel a fear in their hearts and when His Aayaat are recited unto them, they increase them in faith; and they put their trust in their Lord; Who perform (( الصلة )) As-Salaah (i.e. the prayer) and spend out of that We have provided them. It is they who are the believers in it. For them are grades of dignity with their Lord, and forgiveness and a generous provision (i.e. Paradise)." (Al-Anfaal 8:2-4) ا } i ان NيO مQ ع N ما و g صQ ا N هOيNلN روا ع Y P خN ي O مN ل O مP به]N ر P ات N آي P وا ب Q كر] Q ا ذ N ذP إ N ين P لذ:NاN { و "And those who, when they are reminded of the Aayaat of their Lord, fall not on them (as if they were) deaf and blind." (Al-Furqaan 25:73) When they hear the Aayaat of Allaah, they are not too busy to pay attention to them; they listen to them and understand their meanings. So they act upon them and prostrate when they hear them, out of understanding, not out of ignorance and blind following of others. Third: They adhere to the correct etiquette when they listen to them. As the Companions, may Allaah be pleased with them, used to do when they listened to the words of Allaah recited by the Messenger of Allaah. Their skin would shiver, and their hearts would soften to the remembrance of Allaah. They did not shout or do other actions that are not natural; on the contrary, they would sit quietly with the proper attitude of fear, in an unparalleled fashion. And because of this, they attained the victory of praise from their Lord in this world and the Hereafter. `Abdur-Razzaq said, "Ma`mar told us that Qataadah, may Allaah have mercy on him, recited: } O همQ ب:N ر N نO وN شO خN ي N ين P لذ: ا Q لود QQ ج Q هOنP ر م Y P عN شOقN { ت "The skin of those who fear their Lord shivers from it (when they recite it or hear it)" and said, `This is the characteristic of the friends of Allaah; Allaah has described them in this manner, saying that their skin shivers, their eyes weep and their hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allaah. He did not say that they lose their minds and swoon; that is the characteristic of the followers of innovation, and that comes from (( يطان الش )) Ash-Shaytaan."
