Meaning of the Word (Tilaawah)

C وذK C عC اب ت C ذC ع G ةC آي G ر ب K C ا م C ذGإC و C لCأC ة س C مH حC ر G ةC آي Gب Word of the Day Allaah -the Most High -says in His Book in Sooratil-Baqarah (2):121, the meaning of which is: G هG ب H رEفH كC من ي C و G هG ب C ون EنG مH ؤE ي C كG ـئ CلH أوE G هGتC وC لG ق ت K C ح E هC لون EHتC ي C اب CتG كH ال E مE اه CنHيC آت C ين G لذK { ا } C ون E رG اس C خH ال E مE ه C كG ـئ CلH وEأCف "Those to whom We gave the Book recite it as it should be recited, they are the ones who believe therein. And whoso disbelieves in it (the Qur'aan), those are they who are the losers." And we extract from this verse, the verb } $ ه$ت" و" ل$ { ت And it is from (( المصدر )) Al-Masdar } B ة" و" ل$ { ت And from the verb } " ل" { ت And from the root { ت -ل -و } And its linguistic meaning is } B يعا $ م' س"ت } and { B ادا " ش'ن$إ } and { B ة" اء " ر$ { ق recitation, recital, reading (out loud) And its meaning according to the Sharee'ah is: (As-Sa'dee) Adherence (to that which the Qur'aan contains of commands and prohibitions); so they allow that which it deems lawful and they prohibit that which it deems unlawful and they act in accordance with its rulings and they believe in its unclear (verses). (Ibn Katheer) Abul-`Aaliyah said that Ibn Mas`ood said, "By He in Whose Hand is my soul! The right تلوة )) )) Tilaawah is allowing what it makes lawful, prohibiting what it makes unlawful, reciting it as it was revealed by Allaah, not changing the words from their places, and not interpreting it with other than its actual interpretation.'' And along these lines, narrated 'Abdur-Razzaaq on Ma'mar on Qataadah and Mansoor bin Mu'tamir on Ibn Mas'ood who said As-Suddi reported from Abee Maalik from Ibn `Abbaas who said about this Aayah (2:121): "They make lawful what it allows and they prohibit what it makes unlawful, and they do not alter its wordings.'' And `Umar bin Al-Khattaab said, "They are those who when they recite an Aayah that mentions mercy, they ask Allaah for it, and when they recite an Aayah that mentions torment, they seek refuge with Allaah from it.'' This meaning was attributed to the Prophet, for when he used to recite an Aayah of mercy, he invoked Allaah for mercy, and when he recited an Aayah of torment, he sought refuge from it with Allaah.
