And we extract from this verse, the verb } $ وا ' بر) د) " { ي And it is from the verb } " بر)" د" { تAnd from the root { د -ب -ر } And its linguistic meaning is } " مل) "أ"ت } and { " كر) " ف" { ت to ponder and reflect And its meaning according to the Sharee'ah is: (As-Sa'dee) They extract what it (i.e. the Qur'aan) contains of knowledge and they look attentively and contemplate over its innermost meanings and its wisdom and rulings. (At-Tabaree) That they may ponder and reflect over the proofs and evidences of Allaah that are contained within it and what He prescribed in it from His Legislation. So they draw from it admonition and warning and act in accordance with it. (Al-Qurtubee) And in this is proof of the obligation of knowledge of the meanings of the Qur'aan and proof that verily, (( الترتيل )) At-Tarteel (i.e. to recite in a slow, pleasant tone) is more befitting than (( ذM C هD ال )) Al-Hadh (i.e. rushing through one's recitation). And (( برWC تدF ال )) At-Tadabbur (i.e. pondering and reflecting) will not come about when combined with rushing through one's recitation, as we expounded upon in Kitaab At-Tadhkaar (The Book of Remembrance). And Al-Hasan said: (( برWC دCت )) Tadabbur of the Aayaat of Allaah is to act in accordance with them.
