Slide 3 : Internet is the term used for the wide area network/Global Area Network that connects computers, spread all over the world. Through Internet we can share text data, audio and video data. We can also chat with friends. No one is the owner of Internet. Internet consists of inter connection of networks of various types. It is the network of networks. Internet

In this type of communication participants type messages to other chat group participants and receiver response instantly which they can read on screen. Some sites also provide audio & video chat that may be performed with the help of web cam. You can send (Upload) & receive (Download) large files over the net from one computer to another through FTP. When we type keywords in search box it will show us numerous such pages consisting of desired information with links. Slide 20 : Open Internet explorer by Start Program Internet Explorer or Double click on Internet Explorer icon on desktop after connecting to Internet. It will open Internet Explorer with default page or home page. Type URL (Uniform resource Locator), the address of the website e.g. www.earnoncomputer.info or www.tutor-desirachh.blogspot.com and press enter or click on go button. Now you can see desired page. Online Banking: Most of the banks are providing this facility. Blogging (Web log): Like personal web diary, any one can use. Viruses: Viruses spread automatically through Internet and make loss to large number of Software and Hardware. Latest anti-virus should be used to be safe from the viruses. Phising: Attempting to fraud in bank accounts etc. Do not give vulnerable and important information about credit cards and bank accounts etc. Pornography: Nude pictures and videos. Porn stoppers should be used to handle these. Misuse

Portable Internet : Portable Internet Mobile phones use two technologies for connectivity/communication GSM: Global System for Mobile Communications—SIM cards are used CDMA: Code Division Multiple Access—SIM cards are not used e.g. Reliance and Tata phones

GSM networks use following technologies for Internet access : GSM networks use following technologies for Internet access GPRS: General Packet Radio Service This technology allows information to be sent back and forth across a mobile network. This is additional service than Circuit Switch Data (CSD) i.e. audio calls and SMS (Short Message Service)

Features of GPRS : Features of GPRS Max. Theoretical speed up to 171.2 kbps i.e. Three times faster than Dial Up Internet Connections. Instantaneous: Information may be sent and received instantaneously May be used for checking live Cricket scores, file transfer applications, chatting, etc. In future may be used for controlling in house appliances like TV, fans and Acs and other machines by your mobile phones You may connect your computer/laptop with mobile and enjoy Internet

Requirement of GPRS : Requirement of GPRS GPRS enabled mobile phone. Any phone costing above Rs. 3000/- these days may work. GPRS service provider like BSNL, Reliance, Tata Indicom or Airtel Know-how and some expenditure to use GPRS

Limitations of GPRS : Limitations of GPRS Overloading of networks: Lot of data is transferred using GPRS using the same networks we use for audio calls Lower speed: Theoretically 171.2 kbps but seldom achieved No store and forward mechanism like SMSs are stored and forwarded to destination phone when switched. Not suitable for video conferencing like services where we need much bandwidth

EDGE: Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution : EDGE: Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution Also known as Enhanced GPRS and is much better than GPRS High Speed 3G, the much published mobile 3rd generation service is based on EDGE

USB Dialers : USB Dialers Various Internet Service Providers like BSNL, Reliance and Tata etc. are providing their services through USB dialers. A pen drive type small device with a SIM card fitted in it employs CDMA technology and offers a good speed. May be connected to any Laptop or Desktop for Internet access
