Beginnings : Week 6: Community of Faith / Living Waters Beginnings

Overview : Week 1: Story of the Bible Week 2: Jesus Christ Week 3: The Holy Spirit Week 4: People of God / Kingdom of God Week 5: Maturity: growing in our ability to love Week 6: Community of Faith / Living Waters Overview

Slide 3 : When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets. "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16. 13-19

Slide 4 : It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them. Acts 21. 1 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. Acts 20. 28

Slide 5 : Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Romans 12. 10 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Romans 12. 16 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. Romans 13. 8 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way. Romans 14. 13

Slide 6 : Accept one another, then, just at Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. Romans 15. 7 I myself am convinced, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, complete in knowledge and competent to instruct one another. Romans 15. 14 Greet one another with a holy kiss. Romans 16. 16 You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge in sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. Galatianss 5. 13

Slide 7 : Be completely humble and gentle; be patient with one another in love. Ephesians 4. 2 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4. 32

Slide 8 : Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. 1 Corinthians 12. 7-11

Slide 9 : The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body - whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free - and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body. 1 Corinthians 12. 12-20

Slide 10 : The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!” On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 1 Corinthians 12. 21-25

Slide 11 : If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way. 1 Corinthians 12. 26-31

Slide 12 : Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10. 23-25

Slide 13 : We believe that being a community of faith means belonging and reaching out at the same time. Leaders lead and equip in order to guide and release, not control. We support the whole with our resources, with our words/attitudes, by preserving the unity created by the Holy Spirit and with our lifestyle.

Leadership : Leadership Leadership at LWCH consists of a leadership team and ministry leaders. The Leadership teams’ responsibility is to hire/fire Sr. Pastor, oversee the budget, help keep our community of faith on track with our vision, and help with challenges that LWCH’ers face. Leadership Team members are men, appointed, and serve voluntarily for three years.

Leaders : Leaders Ministry Leaders are given positions of influence when it has been demonstrated that they have character, passion, calling and influence. The general idea is to give a person something small - if they handle it well give them something bigger. Faithfulness in small things leads to an opportunity for more responsibility. Becoming a leader means your available options decreases. The leader shall be the servant. A Ministry Leaders’ responsibility is to over see the ministry of which they are a part. Ministry is for everyone in some way shape or form.
