ELECTROCHEMISTRY : ELECTROCHEMISTRY

Introduction : Introduction Iron nail is dipped in Cuppersulphate solution. After some hours we can see some change in it .What is it ? Nail is cotted with a brown coloured substance . It is Cu{copper} Can you suggest any other example of this type in your daily life? Chemical reaction takes place in it.

ELECTROCHEMICAL CELLS : ELECTROCHEMICAL CELLS

TOMATO CELL : TOMATO CELL

DRY CELLS : DRY CELLS

In these cells electricity is produced due to chemical reactions. This branch of chemistry is called electrochemistry.Electrochemistry is the study of reactions between electricity and chemical reaction.IN DRY CELL we have apositive pole(+ve) anode that is Carbon rodAnd negative pole that is Zinc case as Cathode. So in a cell we need a cathode and an anode ELECROCHEMICAL CELLS ARE ARRANGEMENTS WHERE THIS ENERGY CONVERSION TAKES PLACE. : In these cells electricity is produced due to chemical reactions.

GALVANIC CELLS : GALVANIC CELLS

In galvanic cells Zn rod is dipped in ZnSO4 solution Cu rod is dipped in CuSO4 solution there Zn is more reactive than Cu.Zn act as anode ,+vely charged electrode.Cu act as Cathode –vely charged electrode. Each Zn atom react like thisZn-2e------Zn+2It left 2 electrons in the rode and reaches the solution as Zn+2 ions CuSO4 solution exist as Cu+2 ions and SO4 ions Cu ions accepts 2 electron and become Cu atoms : In galvanic cells Zn rod is dipped in ZnSO4 solution Cu rod is dipped in CuSO4 solution there Zn is more reactive than Cu.Zn act as anode ,+vely charged electrode.Cu act as Cathode –vely charged electrode. Each Zn atom react like thisZn-2e------Zn+2It left 2 electrons in the rode and reaches the solution as Zn+2 ions CuSO4 solution exist as Cu+2 ions and SO4 ions Cu ions accepts 2 electron and become Cu atoms

Anode Zn- 2e Zn+2 Cathode Cu+2 + 2e Cu There is a flow of electron through the outer cell That is from Zn rod to Cu rod that is an electric flowWe can see deflection on voltmeter. : Anode Zn- 2e Zn+2 Cathode Cu+2 + 2e Cu There is a flow of electron through the outer cell That is from Zn rod to Cu rod that is an electric flowWe can see deflection on voltmeter.
