Child Protection Procedures : Child Protection Procedures Concerns about a child Signs of Abuse = Report to DSP Child discloses concern to you Allegation against staff? Report to Headteacher Receive, Reassure, React Be supportive but explain your legal obligation to pass on information and make sure they understand. Child says they won’t tell you unless you promise to keep it a secret? Stop the conversation. Record Write a statement with name, form, date and time of conversation and pass to DSP ASAP (especially if child fears to go home). Support Take no further action with the child. Remember confidentiality. You have made a difference to that child. No investigation, photographs, group interviews, removal of clothes or student-written statements Reviewed 8.9.09 HMC/SCO
