Abiding Prayer Acts 1:4-5 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. EXPOUND GO This was such a departure from the Jesus’ previous teaching. He had spent so much time instructing them to go. Matthew 5:41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. What does this mean ? Go to the Father ? You want see ME any more. Losing myself in God. ABIDE John 15:4-7 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. Three Promises of Abiding 1. If You Abide You Will Produce Much Fruit 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 2. If You Abide You Will Not Wither 6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. 3. If You Abide You Can Ask What You Will 7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Why Abide ? We abide so we can be sent with power. Matthew 10:7-8 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. Mark 3:14-15 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, 15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils: Mark 6:7 And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits; Mark 6:12-13 And they went out, and preached that men should repent. 13 And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them. Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. UH-HO Matthew 17:16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. Why? They had been given power to cast out devils. We always have power. We don’t always have dominion. DOMINION 1. Sovereignty; Control. 2. The territory of a sovereign or government. Matthew 17:20-21 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. 21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. So, why couldn’t the disciples cast the demon out of the boy? Jesus said it was because of their unbelief. They Had No Sure Word from God. Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. If We Abide We Will Hear His Directions for Our Day and Be Able to Walk in Faith and Power.
