Mat 3:1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, I. In the days that they decided to call Jesus a Nazarene in order to fulfill the words of the Prophets, John the Baptist was also in the picture. A. John’s existence then was ordained of the Lord 1. More like his “role” was ordained. 2. Is your role ordained? What part do you play in all of this? How is your timing? B. If you were asked what you call yourself in the Kingdom of God, what would be your description? 1. John the Baptist. 2. Jesus of Nazareth, Jesus the Nazarene. a. Can anything good come out of Nazareth? John 1:46 - Jesus didn’t really have the greatest name among men, so why do you feel bad about what people think of you? b. They’re saying the same thing about you. Can anything good come out of you? Prove them wrong! II. In the days that Jesus hung on the rugged Cross for the forgiveness of sin, you were in the picture. A. “Father forgive them (us) for they know not what they do.” Lk 23:34 1. Jesus knew we’d be in spiritual ignorance. He spoke for us! 2. They stripped Him of His special garments and bet on them. Your enemies are betting on you as well. Prove them wrong! a. It was sinful to show that much flesh in public. 1. People will strip you to the point of being sinful. a. Try hard not to “do as the Romans do.” 2. His divinity was challenged. Tempted to save Himself. a. You will be challenged as well. 3. Jesus was most likely tempted to turn vinegar into wine. a. His miracles were followed throughout the towns b. Water to wine was His first miracle. (Mocked.) B. Because of Jesus’ love we must stop falling so easily for sin. 1. Isaiah 1:16-20 We must not refuse to do good. a. Help whomever you can when you can. That’s your role! *end
