Educational development Corporation Publisher of Usborne& Kane Miller Books Executive Supervisor-Amanda Mcbreen Publisher’s Representative 757-484-4568 abmcbreen5@gmail.com February 2, 2010 Mary Bransford Media Specialist Northern Shores Elementary School 6701 Respass Beach Road Suffolk, VA 23435 Dear Ms. Bransford, My name is Amanda McBreen. I am your area Usborne and Kane Miller representative. Usborne and Kane Miller are both divisions of Educational Development Corporation, EDUC. As the exclusive provider of the publishers, we offer lifetime guarantees to schools for the bindings of our books. Additionally, EDUC no longer provides titles to any Jobbers. Any Usborne or Kane Miller titles obtained through Jobber will be rebound titles and are not subject to the EDUC guarantee. This includes the new Conspiracy 365 series. As your representative, I have the ability to work directly with you and Northern Shores to provide you a variety of services and products. I would like to meet with you personally to explain in more detail what they are and how Northern Shores would most benefit. Below is a list of services with brief descriptions: ( Reach-For-The Stars! (RFTS!) Read-A-Thon: a unique and tremendously fun program designed to get kids reading and reward them with new books of their own! 100% of funds are returned. Students read 30 minutes a day, or are read to for 20 minutes if they are non-readers. They read for 10 consecutive days. Pledges are collected for time-spent reading. We offer a suggested format of ten pledges, of $10, for ten days of reading (10-10-10). Students are rewarded for their efforts with lots of drawings for free books and awards are given top readers, top class percent participation and more. The big reward is that 50% of everything the child collects, the child then receives in the form of Usborne/KM books of their choice. For example: Robin gets $60 in pledges. She earns $30 in books of her choice to keep. Every child who raises at least $5.00 will earn a book. The balance of the money comes back to the school in either all books or a split of cash and books. If your school raises more than $1000, then you earn an additional 10%. If you choose to take all proceeds in books you earn an additional 20%. RFTS! requires minimal volunteers. The actual read-a-thon happens over a 2-week time frame. Students may read anything. Staff excitement and enthusiastic support of the program is a key to success. Most teachers/libraries receive hundreds of dollars of new books of their choice just for encouraging the children to read! School officials make the decisions on how the school will benefit. I.e./some have chosen for the library to receive all of the books. ( Literacy for a Lifetime: Our generous matching grant program adds 50% to donations and grants for the purchase of educational materials. Do you receive grant funds from your PTA or another group? Why not maximize those dollars!! Ask for details on this incredible literacy program. ( “Reading Is A Gift” Book Fair: Tailor made for your school, from hundreds of titles brought in, to a single bookrack. Cash and carry, Internet sales and ordering of books takes place. Attendees are shown a wide array of books with up to 1500 titles available. Both teacher and student wish lists are encouraged. Teacher wish lists are highlighted online and at the fair. Bookplates are made available for donating books to the teachers or school. Proceeds are taken as books, cash or a combination of both. A “books only” bookfair receives up to 50% of the total retail sold in books of your choice (including Library bound): $3000 Book Fair = $1500 in books for the school. Proceeds may be split between books and cash. A maximum of 30% of the total retail sales is used for cash. The big deal here, we set it up, take it down, process the orders and can even staff it for your school at no loss of commission to your school! ( Direct Purchase: Library orders, teachers, and staff are eligible for discounts of up to 20% based on dollar volume. I do accept Purchase Orders. Processing is available on Library Bound books, attached or unattached. ( E-Fairs: On-line book sales via the Internet either alone, or in conjunction with an on-site book fair are growing as a supplement to traditional Book Fairs. Access the on-line catalog at www.UsborneintheUSA.com. Brochures, like the “Usborne Books at Home & School”, can also be sent home with students one a monthly, quarterly or even one time basis. ( Educational Workshop: Usborne gives FREE and DISCOUNTED books to you and your school when you host a workshop. No time? Set up a display for the faculty to shop on their break. You still receive the same benefits as hosting a workshop! To set a meeting with me, place an order, or ask further questions, please contact me. Together, we can select the events that would be of the most benefit to your school. Sincerely, Amanda McBreen Executive Supervisor Usborne Books and EDUC
