The United States of America – the richest and one of the biggest countries in the world – has several names. People say “the United States”, “the States”, “America” or just “the USA” or “the US”. The USA is a group of states, such as Texas and Alaska, each represented by a star on the country’s flag, known as the “Stars and Stripes”. 13 stripes on the flag represent 13 original English colonies. All but two of the states are grouped together between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. The USA consists of three separate parts. The major rivers of the USA are the Mississippi, the longest river in the world, and the Hudson River. The Capital of the United States is Washington.
