Mr. McCormic’s Math Class : Mr. McCormic’s Math Class What do you know about measurement? How do we measure the distance around a shape? What do we call this measurement? What do we call the enclosed space in a rectangle? How do we measure this space?

Perimeter and Area : Perimeter and Area What is Perimeter? What is Area?

Perimeter and Area of Rectangles : Perimeter and Area of Rectangles Perimeter of a figure is the distance around the figure. Area of a figure is the number of square units the figure contains. For a rectangle: P= 2(L)+2(W) or P= 2(L+W) L W Area= L x W

Slide 4 : A landscaper plants grass and installs a fence around a rectangular backyard. Find the perimeter and area of the backyard. 70 Ft. 50 Ft.

Solution: : Solution: L= 70 ft. W= 50Ft. P= 2 ( L x W ) or 2 ( L ) + 2 ( W ) P= 2 ( 50 + 70)= 2 ( 120 )= 240 Ft. 2 ( 50 ) + 2 (70 )= 100 + 140= 240 Ft. A= L x W A= 70 x 50 = 350 square feet
