Types of Foodborne Illnesses: : Types of Foodborne Illnesses: When any of the illnesses occur and there are 2 or more people, that have consumed the same food, with a confirmed lab analysis. It is called a foodborne outbreak.
The exceptions are single cases of botulism and any chemical caused illnesses. There are 3 kinds of foodborne
illnesses:
Food-borne Infection – A living organisms, grows in the intestines and causes illness.
Food-borne Intoxication – An organism makes toxins or waste, that cause the illness.
Toxin-Mediated Infection –The organism and the toxins cause the illness. 1-4
