Noon Saakinah and Tanween Rules (cont’d) Idghaam Idghaam means to merge, and when you merge, you always need 2 things. Idghaam will be the merging between 2 words. Keep 6 letters in mind for this rule: ) ي ر م ل و ن )يَرْمَلُون اِدِغَام اِدِغَام كَامِل بِغُنَّة Complete merging WITH Ghunnah When you have Noon Saakinah or Tanween, followed by: ن or م There will be a complete merge, and the Ghunnah will be applied (because noon and meem are both Ghunnah letters). اِدِغَام كَامِل بِلاَ غُنَّة Complete merging WITHOUT Ghunnah When you have Noon Saakinah or Tanween, followed by: ر or ل When you merge Raa or Laam with the Noon Saakin or Tanween, the letter gets merged with Raa or Laam completely. And Raa and Laam do not have the Ghunnah characteristic. اِدِغَام نَاقِص بِغُنَّة Incomplete merging When you have Noon Saakinah or Tanween, followed by: ي or و Here, in the merging of the Noon Saakin/Tanween with the next letter, the quality of Ghunnah is “left behind”, it doesn’t take it with him. Like perfume, scent is still there, but the perfume is not there.
