National Support Team 0910 Follow up
Slide 2 : Some organizations is unlikely to agree to take a trainee on the spot. They will need some time to go away, make some internal enquiries and look over the information in their own time. Especially with larger organizations, it takes a few meetings to build a relationship and make the decisions needed to take interns. In the long run, this may be more sustainable.
The follow up is as important as the sales meeting itself and all the preparation you did beforehand.
Slide 3 : Here are some tips for following up:
Contact Information - Make sure they know how to get a hold of you should they have questions or want to follow up.
Follow up Meeting - Set up the next meeting or phone call immediately (either at the meeting or right afterwards)
Slide 4 : Document and Debrief – Debrief the meeting to yourself to assess how the meeting went.
For example:
What sort of signals were you getting from their expressions and body language? (e.g. “that sounds like an excellent proposition” or “I’ll make a note of that.”)
Were their fingers tapping impatiently on the desk throughout?
Did you hold their attention or were they glancing through other papers and looking at the clock?
Did they ask questions or were they dismissive?
Did they have any specific objections that seemed to be a stumbling point?
Slide 5 : Options to Follow up:
E-mail.
Phone Call.
Meetings.
Slide 6 : Do what you said
Follow up on anything you said you would do for them – show them your credibility to do what you say and deliver on your promises. Maybe you said you’ll show them potential candidates or answer a question you didn’t know at the meeting – always follow up on what you said you’ll do for them.
Slide 7 : Live Connection
Keep the communication alive. Maybe they don’t have a place or need right now but if this is an organization that could have a relationship with AIESEC, keep building the relationship. Communication is the key – don’t let this lapse. Network as much as you can within the organization to increase your champions.
Slide 8 : Involve
Offer and showcase other ways to involve them – remember internships are the only ways to get a partner.
Transition
If you are leaving your term, transition all communication with follow-ups. Even if the communication is not so active or if the company is not interested, it’s worthwhile to pass on the information.
Slide 9 : The basic rule about follow up is to COMMUNICATE. Be BettER, Be ER
