1st Homework – ESL – Tanize
WEEKEND
Last weekend was great. On Saturday night I went to a wedding. At the party after wedding, waiters served a lot of kinds of snacks, cheeses and drinks. Me and my husband danced all nigth. There was too much time that we did’t have fun like this way.
Next day, on Sunday, our family organized a barbecue. I saw relatives that I didn’t see for years. Were all there: uncles, aunts, cousins and others. There was a projector screen in the corner of the yard showing old family photos while we ate.
MY JOB
I’m graduated in Biologic Sciences (medical modality) and nowadays I’m doing PhD in Clinical Analysis at the Sao Paulo University. I spend all day in the lab, doing experiments. I developed a protein that recognize oxidized LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein). Oxidized LDL is the “bad cholesterol” that causes atherosclerosis and therefore acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) or stroke. Next year, on March, I will go to China in a congress to explain about this protein and its chacteristics. Using this protein will be possible quantify oxidized LDL in the blood. The more oxidized LDL in the blood, the greater the chance of developing cardiovascular disease.
