A sign of goodness ?Abdullah ibn ?Umar ?, told ?af?ah one of his dreams, in order for it to be interpreted by the Prophet ?. ?af?ah was the sister of ?Abdullah and the wife of the Prophet. The Prophet said, when interpreting the dream, “?Abdullah is a great person. Yet, it would be superb if he prayed at night!” From that day on, ?Abdullah never abandoned praying at night.” [Bukhari]   3. Slide 26 : 4. To be performed after awaking from sleep “The most virtuous prayer other than the obligatory prayers is the one offered after awakening from sleep during the night.” [Muslim]   5. Lengthy standing The Prophet used to pray at night until his feet would become swollen. He was once asked: “O Messenger of Allah! Why do you strain yourself even though Allah declared in the Qur’an (in chapter 48) that you were forgiven of all your sins?”He replied, “Should not I be a thankful servant?” [Bukhari] Which is more virtuous in Qiyam’l-Layl , long standing or long Sujud? Why is it hard to wake up?   “When you sleep Satan ties three knots on the back of your neck, saying to each knot ‘let a long night stay with you.’ When you wake up and cite the name of Allah one of the knots unties. When you make ablution another knot unties. And when you offer a prayer all of the knots untie. Thus, you wake up fresh and happy in the morning. Otherwise, you wake up depressed and lethargic.” [Bukhari] Forms of Nafl ?alah

To help one another “If a man wakes up at night and also wakes his wife up to offer two units of prayer together, Allah registers their names among those who remember Allah often.” [Abu Dawud]   8. Al-Istikharah  ‘O Allah, I seek Your counsel by Your knowledge and by Your power I seek strength, and I ask You from Your immense favour, for verily You are able while I am not and verily You know while I do not and You are the Knower of the Unseen. O Allah, if You know this affair - and here he mentions his need - to be good for me in relation to my religion, my life, and end, (or he said in my present and future affairs) then decree and facilitate it for me, and bless me with it., And if You know this affair to be bad for me in my religion, my life, and end, (or he said in my present and future affairs) then remove it from me and remove me from it, and decree for me what is good wherever it be and make me satisfied with such.’ [Bukhari] Chapter 1 Forms of Nafl ?alah

Both are considered Sunnah Mu’akkadah even though a group of the later ?anafis considered it wajib. Slide 61 : There is no adhan or iqamah to be called. It is prayed in congregation although it is still permissible to pray it individually. The prayer is of two units; in each rak?ah are two ruku?. The Imam makes the normal Takbirat’l-Ihram The recitation in the first rak?ah is long (especially in ?alat’l-Khusuf where the lunar eclipse lasts for much longer than the solar), as ?A’ishah narrated, that it was approximately the length of Surat’l-Baqarah. (Abu Dawud, no. 1187) The Imam makes the takbir and then goes in to ruku? for a long time, making tasbi? and tahmid etc. The Imam then raises his head and says, “Sami?Allahu liman ?amidahu” and then “Rabbana wa lakal ?amd”, and then remains standing. He does not go into sujud.

Slide 62 : The second standing now starts with a recitation not as long as in the first rak?ah, the length of approximately Surah Ale ?Imran The Imam makes a second ruku? although not as long as the first, then raises his head and straightens, and then goes into the sajdah as in the normal prayers. The two sajdahs are elongated and then the Imam stands again. This is now one rak?ah complete. The whole cycle is repeated again one more time, with each interval shorter in length of time than the very first standing. Once you have finished, you will have prayed a two unit prayer with four ruku? i.e. bowings and four sajdahs i.e. prostrations
