Slide 1 : Straight Line Graphs

Slide 2 : The equation of a straight line graph is written in the form: Examples: a) y = -2x + 1 m = -2 and c =1 b) y = 3x + 2 m = 3 and c = 2 c) y = x + 6 m = 1 and c = 6 Not linear (straight line graphs): y = x3 + 2 y = x2 + 3 y = mx + c

Slide 3 : y = mx + c y – how far up x – how far along m – gradient (how steep the line is) c – the y intercept (where the graph intercepts the y-axis)?

Slide 4 : Intersect To cross over (have some common point)The red and blue lines intersect. C = y intercept

Slide 5 : Gradient - How steep the line is Gradient = up across Gradient = 3 / 5 = 0.6 Gradient = 4/2 = 2 2 is larger then 0.6, this means the line is steeper. A harder hill to climb.
