Aren't ya dying to know already! A complete sentence is ... A sentence must have a subject and a verb and express a complete thought before the period. While I went to the store. Is this a complete sentence? I would like to say, "while I went to the store, WHAT!"  If you said that, you would be correct! The subject is "I," and the verb is "went" but there's something missing.  It is not a complete thought. While I went to the store, Samuel did the laundry.  Now we have a complete sentence. Joe danced. Is this a complete sentence? Yes it is.   "Joe" is the subject and "danced" is the verb.  I understand that Joe danced.  I'm not left dangling completely.  The words before the period make sense. Try out these bad boys and say, "true" if you think they are complete sentences and "false" if you think they are not complete.  Big Foot was staring. Through the window. Down by the door. Maria quickly. He laughed. I sang. Marcos watched while. Until I saw Sam. True False (fragment - not a complete thought) False (fragment - not a complete thought) False (quickly is a word that describes a verb ex. he ran quickly - quickly is an adverb) This sentence has a subject but needs a verb. True True False (fragment - not a complete thought) False (fragment - not a complete thought) U AA C Upgrading Adult Advancement Campus www.uaacampus.com Click on the picture if you are frustrated.
