PARTS OF SPEECH. 1. Noun: A word used to describe a person, place, thing, an idea or a quality of mind. Ex: I enjoy watching cricket. I go to temple. Good and bad go hand in hand. Sachin Tendulkar is from India. 2. Adjective: A word used to describe or qualify nouns. Ex: English is an easy language. I read historical stories. Every citizen has his own fundamental rights. Rose is a beautiful flower. 3. Pronoun: A word used in place of noun. (He, she, it, they, this, that) Ex: Joe is a beautiful girl. She attracts everyone. I visited Sydney. It is in Australia. 4. Verb: A word used to express action, condition or existence. Ex: The children are healthy There are many flowers here. I ate biscuits. She went to the market. 5. Adverb: A word used to modify a verb, an adjective or another adverb or a word used to explain how, where, why and when an action is performed. Ex: We lived happily. They speak Spanish quite well She writes neatly / correctly / beautifully. 6. Preposition: A word used to explain the relations between 2 grammatical words or a word used with a noun or a pronoun to show their relation with some other word in the sentence. Ex: She is fond of sweets They are happy about the result. She is angry with me. He kept the books on the table. There is no money in the purse. 7. Conjunction: A word used to combine 2 words or sentences. Ex: I visited Canada and Malaysia last month. I will talk to her today or tomorrow. The doctor tried hard but could not save the patient. 8. Interjection: A word which expresses some sudden feeling (expression). Ex: Superb! Alas! Excellent! Well said! Fantastic!
