Eg.: Let’s go to the cinema this evening. Let’s have lunch. Can you think of an invitation for one of your friends? It’s not worth it: There’s no point in doing this. Eg. It’s not worth spending so much on sweets. It’s worth it: It’s convenient to do this. Eg. Read this book! It’s worth it! ‘Worth’ may be followed by the pronoun ‘it’ or by a verb+ing form (spending) Is it worth learning English? An interesting sequence When we are speculating about something we may use the following structure: If (something happens), I / you / he / etc. will (do something else). Eg. If the weather is cold, I will wear a hat. If my sister doesn’t come home on time, my mom will be worried. When you are not sure what the consequence will be, you can use ‘may’ instead of ‘will’: Eg. If he falls down, he may get hurt. If I don’t do the washing, my Mom may get angry. Can you think of some more ‘consequences’? If………………………….., XX … will / may…….. (present tense) (future tense) Once you have done the exercise to learn the new vocabulary and studied the expressions and use of tenses, talk to your teacher about the cartoon. Tell your teacher: a) how many characters there are b) what the weather is like c) what the situation is d) how the characters feel e) what will possibly happen f) what you would do if you were the rabbit / snowmen Note: By adding the word ‘lady’ before another noun, you can make that noun refer to a female: lady-doctor; lady-teacher. How would you refer to the snowman wearing the yellow hat?
