Brescia:"Lioness of Italy" : Brescia:"Lioness of Italy" This name derives from a poetic creation of Giosuè Carducci, who wanted to define the leonine courage with which the city fought during the uprising of the Ten Days. He takes it to a renaissance of a great poet Aleardo Aleardi, who in a his song Aleardi called Brescia "Lioness of Italy"for the first time. The lion at the entrance of the church of Carmine.

BRIXIA the Roman period for Brescia : BRIXIA the Roman period for Brescia At the foot of the Cidneo hill, on which was built the Castle in Medieval times, stands the magnificent Flavius Vespasian temple erected in Brescia, in the year 73 of our era. the domus of the Ortaglia : the domus of the Ortaglia The Roman domus found in the Ortaglia (the garden of the nuns) of the monastery of Santa Giulia in Brescia were part probably north-eastern districts of Brixia, located between the Forum and the walls built in the Augustan period. It was precisely the construction of the monastery (which started in 753 AD) to ensure the survival of Domus that we can now see restored and protected by an ad hoc structure inserted into the frame of the Roman museum which was housed in Santa Giulia: in fact, the building of the place of prayer has preserved the entire area by the dynamics subsequent construction, hand real treasure.      The district was traversed by the Domus decumanus maximus (now Museums street) and was behind the Cidneo hill : Due to the proximity of the monumental area of the Forum, the houses were to be used by nationals certainly wealthy, as evidenced by the abundance of floor decoration and parietal and use of quality materials and skilled polychrome inside houses, for a period we can date almost without interruption from I to IV century AD      In terms of construction, materials and implantation of building, the two houses of Santa Giulia are no different from those of similar dwellings found in other towns of the empire, except for the lack of brick, low to the scarcity of quarry of clay in the area.
